Opening of our new outdoor area! πŸ˜ƒπŸ’š

16th Jun 2026
πŸ’š A very special morning at St. Michael’s! πŸ’š

Today, we officially opened our brand-new Outdoor Area, dedicated to the memory of our esteemed past pupil and mountaineering legend, Mr. Noel Hanna.

We were deeply honored to be joined by Noel’s wife Lynne, his family, classmates from the Class of 1978, Master Colm McAlarney and members of our wonderful school community to celebrate this long-awaited dream becoming a reality.

Our space serves two beautiful purposes!

To Honor Noel Hanna!

Noel began his climbing career right behind us on Slieve Croob before going on to summit Mt. Everest 10 times and set world records. He achieved global fame but never forgot his Dromara roots. Our plaque unveiled today honors his incredible legacy.

To Inspire Our Children!

This is a safe, happy space for our pupils to learn, explore, climb, read, and build friendships in the foothills of the landscape Noel loved so much!

A massive THANK YOU to our amazing community for making this project a reality!
Our parents & the Friends of St. Michael’s for their tireless fundraising. Fr. Peter & Mark for blessing our new space. Allan Hamilton from Brilliant Trails for bringing our vision to life in a phenomenal 3 days and our Board of Governors and staff for their continued support and brilliant design ideas!

Seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter of our children this morning made it all worthwhile!

Here’s to many years of outdoor learning and adventures! πŸ’šβœ¨β˜ΊοΈ
